How to \"break in\"

As a recent graduate of FGASA Level 1 Field Guide, I'm obviously anxious to "break-in" to this industry. I've looked at several job ads, responded to a few, but so far, no hits! So how does one get started here, with little or no relevant experience, just a passion and desire to get stuck in and make this work for me!
