Instead of sitting at night drinking vast quantities of Black Label and telling dodgy stories, Rangers should try reading a book. I thoroughly recommend A Few Deeds Short of a Hero, by Robert Widders. It's a fantastic book - honest!!! Course I would say that as I wrote the feckin' thing :)

How about a short breakdown of the chapters in your book?

The book starts with the dysfunctional childhood that seems to typify soldier's lives. It then relates my service in the Royal Navy in the NATO rapid reaction force in the Atlantic. The final part of the RN section recounts my year with Naval Intelligence in Northern Ireland during the 'troubles'. After I left the RN, I travelled in the Sahara and then returned to the UK to join the Army. Served with a tank regiment, during the Cold War, facing the Soviets in Germany. Went AWOL and went to Africa looking for work as a mercenary. Returned to Germany and spent 28 days in Military Prison. An interesting place as it was a former WW2 prisoner of war camp. Left the Army and trained as a nurse. Joined the RAF and volunteered for the first Gulf War. It's serious in places and funny in others. Has had good reviews in the newspapers. Have done a number of live radio programmes about it on RTE Ireland and the BBC in the UK. That's a very very basic breakdown. So best you buy it!!!! OK. (www.amazon.co.uk) PS, I really miss being a Ranger....

Sorry for the slow reply. Easiest (and probably cheapest) way to get a copy is to order from Amazon. But if that proves problematic, I can get copies and send them. Cheers, Rob
